I buy hand made products where I can because it helps promote small businesses, skills and workmanship, fair pricing and community. I also prefer bespoke, made to order over mass produced items. I rarely shop, but when I do I look for what is the best I can afford, increasingly this fulfilled by handmade items from this country. I should also note, when I am abroad, I look for items made by hand locally to ensure I particpate in supporting the local economy.

I am delighted to support the Buy Handmade campaign. For over 5 years now I have been providing handcut gemstones to jewellery designer-makers across the country who sell their own work, as well as selling my own handmade jewellery. Additionally, I am the proud organiser of The Scottish Bead Fair which includes the work of independent lampwork bead artists. The beauty and originality of handmade items combined with the integrity and passion of designer-makers inspired me to start The Handmade Show in Scotland in 2011. Showcasing the quality work of designer-makers and giving them a platform to get their work out to a wider audience is incredibly rewarding. There can be no better gift than something that mas been made by hand with passion and love.
