The Best of British Crafts is Here Again
Saturday 12th November sees the start of one of the most loved craft events in the country at Blackthorpe Barn, perfect for unique Christmas gifts, and it’s nestled in Rougham just outside Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.
The medieval barn doors open to the craft event each weekend from 12 November to 11 December to showcase a fascinating mix of the most inspiring and unique crafts.
Visitors can meander through the beautiful barn and be captivated by the pure craftsmanship and creative flair oozing from the many different crafts on display. This year the collections are hugely varied and certainly worth a visit with everything from artisan metal work, glassware and wax work to hands on leather design, and fashion in the form of knitware and funky wearable art. There are also maps and memoirs, paintings, greeting cards, jewellery, soaps, decorative wood creations and clocks, plus tasty delights such as cured meats, curds and cheese and sweet treats such as chocolate, cakes and fudge. Everything for special Christmas gifts or perfect for indulging yourself.
The beauty about crafts at Blackthorpe Barn is that each craft has to be made in Britain and the passionate craftmakers themselves must be at the barn and able to chat with the thousands of visitors about their inspirations and maybe give a demonstration. Plus, as many of the exhibitors change from Saturday to Saturday visitors have the chance to see even more unique and inspiring items, so a season ticket that provides entry as many times as you like is highly recommended.
In addition to the wonderful array of crafts you can attend a series of hands-on workshops where you can learn how to make beautiful items yourself, such as Christmas garlands and wreaths, felt creations and wire gifts. Please see www.blackthorpebarn.com for full details.
The barn is also the perfect setting for the hugely popular Country Christmas Shop, bursting at the seams with everything Christmassy from tree and home decorations, lovely lighting, ribbons, bows and so much more, including glorious ‘Make’ and ‘Bake’ sections with a huge selection of make-your-own kits that will get your creative juices flowing with everything from candles and wonderful decorations through to delicious edible treats.
Plus, Christmas just isn’t the same without a famous Rougham Estate Christmas Tree. Available from 26th November, the trees offer the best quality and longevity, plus a wide choice of colours, shapes and gorgeous scents – but be quick they go quickly. Mistletoe, handmade wreaths and holly are also available.
George Agnew owner of Blackthorpe Barn and Rougham Estate adds, “We are so proud of the variety of crafts we bring to the barn over the five weekends each year. We always try to introduce new and unique crafts that will appeal to all and this year I feel the collections are even more diverse and interesting. Visitors will certainly be able to find something special for friends and family or even a little something for themselves.”
Blackthorpe Barn is just three miles east of Bury St Edmunds, off the A14 at junction 45 (Sat Nav IP30 9HZ).
