The Grasp Project: Re-inventing Craft

The Grasp Project is an initiative aiming to re-invent craft in our current digital and technological age. In association with Oh Comely Magazine, six final-year Arts and Event Management students from Arts University Bournemouth hope to do this through an engaging day of workshops and talks from industry professionals.
The Grasp Project
The initiative addresses many areas within the arts and crafts sector, such as gender stereotypes within certain practices, entrepreneurship within the industry and the accessibility of arts and crafts to all ages and abilities. The Grasp Project also promotes the authenticity and quality of handmade or locally sourced products in a time when unethical and unsustainable production is now so frequently recognised, but not always actively challenged.
Sarah Corbett Speaker
The event, taking place at Factory Studios (Boscombe, Bournemouth), will host an afternoon of innovative and exciting workshops lead by craft specialists, followed by an evening of talks from industry professionals such as Sarah Corbett from the Craftivist Collective with live music accompaniment from The DuBarrys and Hannah Robinson.
Workshops by Ellie Birkhead, Sarah Fennell, Esther Thorpe and Benjamin Matthews, serve as taster sessions, where participants of all abilities can try a variety of mediums and take home their hand-made creations.
Through hosting this ambitious event, the Grasp Project hope to connect the public to local and national practitioners and organisations, sparking new interests in crafting to the local community.
The project is also based on inclusivity, meaning they encourage participants to try activities that may be less accessible or under-represented by their age, gender or ethnic group.
