Profile
By day I work for an Oxford-based academic publisher, by night (and weekends and any other spare moments) I make bags and other accessories. I love using vintage or discarded fabrics to make something beautiful, unique - and useful!
Since inheriting my mum’s old sewing machine (‘Lottie’) at the age of 11, I’ve always loved to sew and am drawn to vintage style and design – particularly that of the 50s, 60s and 70s. I'm a real fabric gannet and can't resist pouncing whenever I see a vintage textile which means I now have far too much stashed away. I started making bags in 2007 and was immediately attracted by the way that a simple design can become something unique and special with great fabrics and a few extra touches.
I've recently started to teach workshops - on bag making and other sewing skills - frilly knickers is the latest! I joined the writing team for the UK Handmade Blog in the middle of 2010 while on maternity leave and am now also writing tutorials and feature articles for UK Handmade Magazine.
